Dance your way down the aisle!
Dance your way down the aisle!

Take a leaf out of  Ann Widdecomb’s book and get your dancing shoes on!  If she can get a partner through dance then anyone can!  Now, that’s a bit unfair really- Ann Widdecomb has a lot to offer someone- they just need to be interested in politics…

Anyway what I’m trying to say is that dancing is one of the best forms of exercise –and one of the most social forms!  Now with all the TV coverage of all the different types of dance there’s more and more out there to have a go at.  Even if you don’t find the partner of your dreams there you’ll get fitter trying!

Think of ‘Diversity’ the dance group who won the Britain’s Got Talent and the style of dance they do- this is street dance at its best and there are lots of street classes in gyms and clubs now that you can go along to.  There are also D.V.D.s and books you can get to give you some ideas.

Strictly social:

There’s also the current craze of ‘Strictly come dancing’ which should get your feet tapping – and propel your would be partner straight in to your arms! Check out clubs, gyms and leisure centres for their list of ballroom and Salsa classes. There’s even an Aliesha Dixon line of classes that you can sign up for, with some gyms, to get her sexy moves!

Talking of Salsa, this along with Lambada, is a whole other really strong dance scene. Here you dance with partners- pelvis to pelvis- while the man spins the woman around in arcs and swirls of hair! Don’t worry about being alone if you turn up at a Lambada club you can have a lesson first to get the idea and you’re paired up with whoever is there and then you can stay on for the evening and you’ll usually get dragged off the floor by some (more experienced) male or female who will get you going in the role! Classes can even inlcude understanding the origins of Salsa, learning the Cuban and Cross-body lead and having a go at some of the Salsa choreography.

You’ll also find Tango classes and ofcourse other forms of ball room too.

Don’t forget the old guard of dance classes either- at dance clubs and gyms you’ll find ballet and jazz classes that are great for toning and fitness and keeping you limber.

The rumble of Zumba

There’s also another fitness dance craze taking hold at the moment and that is Zumba!  Zumba fitness was created in the mid 90’s by a Colombian Alberto Perez –he was inspried by the traditional music  of Cumbia, Salsa, Samba and Merengue and paired this with easy to master dance steps. It has now become one of the fastest growing dance based fitness workouts!  Go along and try it- you never know who else might be there!
